PEARLYN TAN

Becoming Feral began as a way for me to make sense of midlife not as decline, but as a return. The work explores what happens when attention shifts away from roles, expectations, and the ways women’s bodies are watched and interpreted, and turns inward instead.

 

Through cyanotype, light sensitive dye printing, collage, paper mâché, and sculptural forms, I trace inner landscapes shaped by anxiety, instinct, memory, and transformation, what gets buried, what resurfaces, and what becomes visible when we stop performing and start listening. The works are connected through solar printing processes, where light, exposure, time, and chance shape the image. The unpredictability of these processes mirrors the shifting physical and emotional landscape at the heart of the exhibition.

 

Becoming Feral considers wildness not as chaos, but as a return to instinct: something less managed and more intuitive. It asks what it means to trust the body again, shed old forms, and find a different kind of power in becoming.
